Newsroom Ready: Charlie Angus’s mother is concerned about federal money for Loblaw
New Democrat Charlie Angus told the House of Commons Thursday about a phone call with his mother. He then asked the government about why Loblaw lobbyists were at a Liberal fundraiser. The company received $12 million in a federal grant to make their refrigerators and freezers more energy-efficient. Loblaw is to invest $36 million in the project. Sean Fraser, the parliamentary secretary to the environment minister, says he would point Angus's mother to investments in the 2019 budget and that the cash to Loblaw fit federal funding rules. Later on, Conservative critic Ed Fast asks why the government gave a profitable company money.
