Newsroom Ready: Former Green leader defends $30,000 entry fee to party leadership race
The Green Party of Canada has approved seven people to run in the contest underway to succeed Elizabeth May in the party's leadership chair. May, who stepped down last fall after more than 13 years in the role, acknowledged the $30,000 entry fee for the candidates is steeper than the $2,000 she had to pay back in 2006. But May says the party has grown from a fringe player with no MPs to a full participant with three elected MPs, and one of the things a leadership hopeful has to prove is that they can raise money.
