Miller defends abstaining from vote on dropping court actions regarding First Nations kids
Indigenous Services Minister Marc Miller says he abstained from voting on an NDP motion last week calling on Ottawa to end its legal battles involving First Nations children because it did not include all the facts. Miller says government agrees that First Nations kids who suffered harms in child welfare deserve compensation, but notes the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal rulings could not award as much as class-action lawsuits underway.
