Proposed settlement reached on 'day scholars' class action
A proposed settlement reached in a class-action lawsuit against Ottawa will compensate hundreds of First Nations people left out of residential-school compensation. Indigenous students known as “day scholars,” who attended residential schools but returned to their homes at night have agreed to a proposed compensation of $10,000 each. Ottawa will also invest $50 million into a Day Scholars Revitalization Fund.
