Newsroom Ready: Veterans Affairs taken to task for online Second World War video featuring German soldiers
Veterans Affairs Minister Lawrence MacAulay apologizes for a mistake where footage of German troops, not Canadian soldiers, was used in an online video to mark 74 years since the end of fighting in Europe during the Second World War. Under questioning in the House of Commons, MacAulay says he has asked for a review and doesn’t want the error to detract from the message to ensure the atrocities of that war never happen again. Later, former Conservative defence minister Rob Nicholson can be seen standing and applauding MacAulay’s comments.
